Director of Winemaking
In a personal quest to understand and produce significant Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Michael McNeill has spent many years in California, Oregon, and Burgundy. In his early winemaking days, Michael worked honing his talent and skills at the prestigious Chalone Vineyards. His appointment as Director of Winemaking at Hanzell Vineyards has brought him full circle in working with the great California pioneers. As a keystone of our team, Michael McNeill strives each and every day to reinforce a collaborative atmosphere where there is a free flow of ideas. His approach is to gather opinion and glean as much information as possible before making decisions—decisions based in honoring a house style of age-worthy wines that are the singular expression of this iconic site.
