Ralph Bradford Webb

Founding Winemaker

Hanzell Brad Webb Hanzell Sonoma

A true gentleman, scholar, and scientist, Brad Webb was invited to join Ambassador Zellerbach as Winemaker for Hanzell Vineyards in 1956. The fusion of passion, brilliance, and resources of these two men catapulted forward the understanding of making fine wine in California. Four major scientific breakthroughs are credited to Brad Webb to this day, temperature controlled stainless steel fermentation, use of inert gas, control of malolactic fermentation, and complete use of small French oak barrels.
