Ambassador James D. Zellerbach
Born in 1892, James D. Zellerbach achieved great success in his life, both personally and professionally. In 1938, after serving nine years as Executive Vice President, Mr. Zellerbach became President of the Crown Zellerbach Paper Corporation; a company which began as a horse-drawn cart founded by his grandfather, and grew under his leadership into a massive business enterprise. After serving as an administrator for the Marshall Plan and later going on to become the Ambassador to Italy, James developed a love and passion for the wines of Burgundy. It is this love that inspired him to produce “wines equal to the best in the world” here in the Mayacamas overlooking Sonoma. His original vision has been an inspiration for all who have followed the winding road to the top of the hill to visit us at the birthplace of quality winemaking in California.
